I was refused a pnumonia shot this morning because I seem not to fit CDC guidlines for getting one. I have a history of rispiratory problems although I haven't been bothered by them for a few years. My doctor has to sign off on the vaccination and maybe I can get one next year the nurse advised me. By the way, this shot was not at the taxpayer's expense. So much for prevention.
Hmmmm....are you 60 or over....? I thought after that age they would give them to everyone....
CDC is another make work bureacracy filled with ACORN members.
The exception is if you are an at risk person. I am. But that is not the issue. Why does the CDC, a government agency, get to make that decision?
Shades of things to come.
I want to see the faces of all those who have demanded Gov’t health care when they are denied even ‘routine’ things once universal health care is dictating their life or death decisions.
My point exactly.
I have had pneumonia once, bronchitis many times plus asthma. I haven't been bothered by any of these for a few years. My point is the shot was not at the taxpayers expense but mine. Now I have to jump over some hurdles to get the damn thing.
That one is on your provider.
Pneumonia vaccination is indicated to any adult with “lung disease”; which includes asthma, COPD etc.

but I believe your premise is probably right....ie rationing undoubtably will exponentially worsen. Especially as access and providers disappear.
Hope your health improves
That one was going to be on me. The CDC sets the guidelines the nurse informed me. My health is not too bad. I'm just trying to keep it that way.
No doubt.
I had never had pneumonia until December of 2004 (and I NEVER want to have it again.) In October of 2005 I was in to see the doc for a seasonal flu shot. I asked her about a pneumonia vaccine. She said it would have to be ordered but when she got it she would let me know. The following week I was in there for that shot. I’d say if you have had it in the past they would provide the vaccine. Don’t sound good to me.
Here’s my opinion.
Go back to the doctor and demand the shot.
Just because you have not had a problem with bronchitis for awhile, doesn’t mean that it won’t raise it’s ugly head tomorrow.
I was told that if you have had bronchitis twice, it’s considered chronic, the damage is permanent, your lungs are damaged and there is no cure. That’s me.... and it’s described as COPD.
As you likely know, the shot will not keep you from coming down with pneumonia, but it can lesson how bad it could otherwise get. I have both lung and heart issues, so if I get pneumonia, it could easily kill me.
Because you have already had lung issues, you should get all the protection you can get.... and that simple shot may very well keep you out of serious and irreversible trouble.
Sir, don’t take no for an answer... demand it.
I go to see the doctor in two weeks. I will take the matter up. But the point of my post is we don’t government slugs making these decisions for us. If we allow that we are all in deep poop, healthy or not.
I don’t understand at all why they would put restrictions on the shot for you unless you have had previous reactions to shots or vaccines. I am in California and my company offers the pneumonia shot to everyone along with the flu shot each year. I had pneumonia in the past and for years had bronchitis a few times every year. I also occasionally have asthma from allergies. Ever since I had the pneumonia shot (about 9 years ago) I have never had another bout with bronchitis so I think it helps generally with all respiratory ailments. If I were you I would go to a general walk-in clinic/urgent care place (they all offer the shots here) and pay for the shot out of pocket. I am unaware of the CDC or any entity rationing these shots.
Just so there is no confusion on this matter my employer arranges flu shots at work for those who want them. They also provide pneumonia shots if you want one. I did. That is when I found out about the BS CDC guide lines even though I was willing to pay for it. I see my doctor in two weeks and will get the matter sorted out. I guess.
Your point was well taken. We are all going to be in for a rough ride.
Good luck with your doc... If you remind him that you have had lung issues, I’m sure he will give you the shot. But after Obamacare is in effect... then you can go drop dead.
I wonder if this nightmare will ever stop.
I agree...do what Gator said....demand the shot, NOW....or find another doc....plus, make sure you’re taking plenty of Vit D3....like probably 5000+IU per day!
As I understand it it was not a matter of rationing but weather I fit the guidelines set by The CDC. The point is no Federal Government agency should make those decisions. I see my doctor in two weeks and will sort the matter out.
