When I walked into the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan last week, I headed straight for the bright young thing who wore an Ask Me button, and asked her to point me to the section of the store where I might find Sarah Palins memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life. She looked at me as if I had requested a copy of Mein Kampf signed in blood by the author, and directed me to the nearest Barnes and Noble, where, presumably, readers of dubious taste and sensibility could find what they wanted.
The audacious Stanley Fish of the New York Times persevered and was able to appropriate a copy of Palins book. Perseverance is a ubiquitous theme in her tome which is not to be confused with Barack Obamas perseveration.
Fish liked the book and by extrapolation, Palin herself. Her autobiography is undeniably all Sarah:
The questions to ask then are (1) Does Palin succeed in conveying to her readers the kind of person she is? and (2) Does she do it in a satisfying and artful way? In short, is the book a good autobiographical read? I would answer yes to both.
Fish is taken with Palins authenticity. Her many supporters figured that out long ago. The autobiography is a crisp and snappy read, telling the life story of Sarah Palin. Palin is a doer, not a dreamer, and unlike the current Oval Office occupant, Palin is keenly aware of how her actions impact other people.
The much ballyhooed Obama biography, Dreams From My Father , is more like a really crappy piece of abstract art. Nobody in the room wants to admit they dont get it for fear of appearing unsophisticated.

the place is run by gays, great store tho, but i don’t think the gays like her.
Bad idea to run a business selling products YOU think the public should buy, instead of giving the public what THEY want.
My number one political rule: follow the money.
And that refers to who gets it, who doesn’t have it and who wants it.
The NYT, has lost enough money supporting the Messiah; what it is doing now is accepting the lay of the land and choosing to benefit from it, and if that means reporting favorable stories to Palin, so be it.
My president is going to make history ... by doing the right things, rather than just by being the first in some trivial demographic box. She’s going to start in three years, one month, and twelve days!
This is the kind of love that they gave McCain. Heap them with praise because they destroy the fabric of the Republican party, then shun them when they get close to being elected.
What i find funny is, these Liberal minded people who run these book stores and won’t sell her book are more focused on their political views and not on making money for their business. Is it any wonder why Democrats suck when it comes to running a private business.
Read the last line:
“But beware of liberals bearing gifts. Chris Matthews, who has the impulse control of a two year old, is beseeching the GOP nominate Palin for 2012 in the fatuous belief that she will be the partys most beatable.”
Unfortunately, most bookstores and all media conglomerates are run by liberals.
Owner of the Strand bookstore is Nancy Bass - she is (was?) married to a Dumocrat Senator on the left coast, from Oregon I believe.
how many of those “little stores” are folding up?
In the big stores you have the literary snobs putting other books over or concealing best selling conservative books.
The difference is that people are READING this book, unlike hillary’s book which was use as a means of campaign funding workaround.
