Apparently, I unsuccessfully skirted that line. But thank you for reading. I do appreciate it.

An irony is that real events often sound so unrealistic that they have to be downplayed in stories about them.
I remember once, when returning a bad device to an electronics store, I mentioned that it was bad to a young woman working the cash register, and that I wanted to exchange it with a working unit. But by the time I had returned to the register, the cashier was crying and bawling, and an angry manager next to her was enraged, at me!
He demanded I apologize to her, even though I hadn’t done anything odd or belligerent to her. Utterly puzzled, I said “What for?”, and she redoubled her sobs and crying. He was utterly furious with me, and walked across the floor to confront me.
The floor was a little wet. He did a great banana peel slip and fall, landing with a very loud thud, which knocked the wind out of him.
Instantly the sobbing cashier broke out into loud guffaws of laughter, equally uncontrollable. At that moment, I decided that I really didn’t need to return the bad device, that it would be better if I just got a replacement somewhere else.
