Remember Hurricane Katrina?
Ok, so you have ONE example. ONE.
This was order issued by an incompetent chief, a chief admittedly who had never faced a disaster scenario like this before. A chief who was under extreme duress because five hundred members of his police department had either walked away from the job (most of which thought the city was a lost cause), were unaccounted for, or a small portion were participating in the looting. The only police chief that might have faced something similiar was the LA chief during the Rodney King riots.
A chief who worked at the behest of a democratic mayor and council. A mayor who is member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a dubious group, that truth be known, could probably live with just dropping the word Illegal from their title.
A chief of police of a city that even before Katrina, scored consistently in the top five most violent cities in the US.
It’s wrong to make the rallying cry “Remember Katrina!” as an opportunity to paint all police officers with a broad brush and inflame passions about gun confiscations.
