“Romney’s epiphany on the abortion issue came in the same time frame he made the decision to run for potus. Obviously, a political metamorphosis based more on political expediency than conservative principle.”

I don’t rule that out but isn’t that what the torches and pitchfork crowd here demand and what the Tea Partyeers have been saying?

“CAN YOU HEAR US NOW!”

The premise of people who demand their pols listen to them and bend to the will of the people is that politicians should and must modify previous positions if in fact that is the desire of the people they are supposed to represent.

Then the next day they demand the representatives they support have “unbending principles”. Unbending means unchanging.

You can’t have it both ways. Demanding pols have unbending principles then demanding they change their positions to reflect the mobs positions is a contradiction.

Not in my book.

This is all about what is right and what is best for America. Its about principled conservatism and traditionalism trumping liberalism. Not how best to employ political expediency to hoodwink folks into voting for you. Its about how best to achieve limited government, lower taxes and in this specific case, how best to defend and protect the unborn. Its about how best to purge evil liberals from within our own ranks and remove big government socialists from within the federal government.

The last people who are capable of advancing conservatism, are politicos like Romney and Giuliani. The mob is a reflection of democracy. America is a Republic and our federal government is based on elected representatives following the Constitution, not making it up as they go along.

Core principles is just that. CORE It means you start out that way and end up that way. Changing one’s mind on purely POLITICAL issues is something else altogether.
CORE principles include THOU shalt not murder. Abortion is murder. You either support murder or you don’t. In that sense, there is no political issue involved. It is who you are inside.
Gun control is and has never been allowed by the Constitution. Not a little bit. Not alot.
You either adhere to the Constitution, or you don’t.
Committing a crime with a firearm moves that issue into the criminal catagory. Denying criminals weapons is one thing. Making criminal out of law abiding citizens is another. Any law against firearms beyond that is a CORE principle.
Healthcare is not a right. It might be a doctor’s DUTY to treat the ill, but it is not a right of every citizen to receive it. It is a matter of conscience. The United States has always had a conscience. Hardly anyone in this country is denied lifesaving health care, but government involvement will change that, and it has in many cases.
Maybe you should learn to tell the difference between CORE values and peripheral political decisions like what roads get built where. Never the twain shall meet.
If you can believe in your heart that abortion is wrong, you can’t publicly support it for superflous political reasons. That indicates to me that your CORE is made of jello and just as worthless.
