Here is video of Sen. John McCain last night, correcting President Obama's Hirohito gaffe, and then commenting on Obama's Afghanistan speech.
Sean Hannity led into the interview with McCain by showing clips from Obama statements over the last two years regarding his view on the importance of Afghanistan, and his unwillingness to use the word "victory." He played the clip of Obama saying he is "worried about using the word 'victory,' because it invokes the image of Hirohito coming down and signing the surrender to MacArthur." Problem is, Japanese Emperor Hirohito did not sign the surrender on the Battleship Missouri.
When Hannity began talking to McCain, McCain began by correcting Obama's gaffe - "As I recall Emperor Hirohito never surrendered to Gen. MacArthur."
On Afghanistan, McCain said the surge can succeed there, but he criticized Obama's decision to set a date for withdrawal, which he said will make it hard to get Afghans to work with us due to fear they will be abandoned in 18 months. . . . (VIDEO)

McCain is always there to pick the low-hanging fruit.
Thanks, John. That’s a good little boy. You get two gold stars for your report card today.
I’m sure the media will jump all over this gaffe.
But if Palin said this... Oh, my.
It just gos to show Obama’s inexperience and incompetence.
We have watched the Czars he has picked. Most are poor picks . A good leader gets himself a competent team and sits back and guides them.
We know Obama had speech writers who wrote this speech for him, but he picked poor-ignorant speech writers. Even at that he should have caught this himself. I am sure he would not have made such a gaffe about a Muslim quote from the Koran, he is much more knowledgeable about hat.
ah so, this is why obowman bow so deeply to emperor, to apologize for humiliating defeat forced on his father by arrogant imperialist USA
next week he apologize in Norway for the bomb dropped on Pearl Harbor, too
and he said this to the long gray line at West Point, where the ghost of McArthur lingers
It was Premier “Peg Leg Pete” Shigemitsu who signed the surrender agreement.
Succeed at what? Push back the date of ultimate failure? Successfully waste men and treasure?
We don't know how to fight anymore. Stop killing the soldiers for nothing already. How hard is it to order an orderly withdrawal?
In case anyone has noticed, during these Iraq and Afghan campaigns, the federal government has been most aggressive in destroying USSA citizens' liberty.
At least those whores McCain and Hannity are predictable.
Let's put aside the cyncism for just a moment:
If anybody is entitled to poke at Øbambi on this matter, it's surely Senator McCain.
That's because the Senator's hard-drinkin' and hard-cussin' grandfather, the distinguished Vice-Admiral J. S. McCain, was actually right there on board the U. S. S. Missouri when the Japanese surrendered.
(Admiral McCain was a member of the U. S. delegation to the surrender ceremony. He didn't want to attend, due to poor health, but Admiral Halsey ordered that he be there. And sadly, Adm. McCain died four days later. In recognition of his service, the Congress later promoted him posthumously to four-star rank.)
If anybody is entitled to poke at Øbambi on this matter, it's surely Senator McCain.Wrong!
No gold star for you!
If anybody is entitled to poke at Øbambi on this matter, it's surely NOT Senator McCain.
Did you NOT pay attention to the 2008 Election for President of the United States?
Did you NOT hear Senator McCain "protect and defend" Obama the Marxist Muslim from any and all "unfair criticism".
McCain somehow stumpled into the Palin decision. But both before and after that he was either and absolute BUFFOON or, as many have suggested, an actual Obama operative. (Nothing but buffoon or traitor explains the abysmal campaign he ran in which he spent time DEFENDING Obama.)
So, NO!
If anybody is entitled to poke at Øbambi on this matter, it's surely NOT Senator McCain.
“It was Premier Peg Leg Pete Shigemitsu who signed the surrender agreement.”
This http://www.ussmissouri.com/sea-stories-mo-captain is long but is an interesting read.... wonder if Obama has read it?
I had an uncle, USS Mansfield, who was there.
OK, let's just say you're correct. For the sake of argument I'll concede your point.
So now, tell me this:
Which member of the commentariat is more qualified than Sen. McCain to comment about the Japanese surrender? His grandfather was actually there, on board the U. S. S. Missouri. Can you say that any member of the journalistic community? About any other Senator? About any other politically prominent figure?
Or even about any FReeper?
Shigemitsu was the Foreign Minister. General of the Army Umezu also signed the surrender document.
