When I was at my AFROTC field training, in 1971, we had a guy from Ponca City OK who was “ahead of the trend” he had those “hot pants” type shorts, but no one else did. So we called him “hot pants”, except for the rotation where he was the flight commander, and I was the flight sergeant. Earlier, he taught me how to march, later I tutored him in academics. (History of the USAF, organization of the DoD and AF, etc)
