Thank you, Non-Sequitur!

How about North Korea? Although I don't think THEY'd ever permit us in, would it be illegal for us as U.S. citizens to visit North Korea, without having special okays from the U.S. government??

I mean... people travel to Iran frequently, but I never hear about anyone other than Franklin Graham and his charitable organization travelling to North Korea.

Now there are exceptions to that, and I don't think the government has prosecuted anyone under the law in recent memory. But it's still there on the books.

One of those exceptions is for "educational conferences," which Bill Ayers and his wife have taken advantage of on numerous occasions, the most recent being last year, IIRC.

A few are permitted, through certain approved agents, and under the strict supervision and censorship of the N. Korean government.

If you have some time to spare, you might want to check out "The Vice Guide to North Korea," videos by some audacious adventurers/cinematographers who managed to circumvent some of the rules. It's a fairly bleak, but at the same time humorous and eye-opening picture of that sorry country.

You are correct. As far as the US government cares, go ahead and book your next fun-filled vacation in North Korea. The Koreans won't let you in, but the US doesn't care one way or the other.

"A phony birth certificate can be purchased in Los Angeles for as little as $3, and a complete phony identity can be packaged for around $300.

A false passport, using the identity of a dead person or a friend, is equally easy to acquire.

On July 5, 1977, the Pakistani Chief of Army Staff, General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, imposed Martial Law and the elections were postponed. In 1979, General Zia-ul-Haq declared political parties to be defunct and certain political leaders were disqualified. A provisional Constitution was enforced on March 23, 1981, as the Constitution of 1973 had been suspended with the imposition of Martial Law. Finally, after the nomination of Muhammad Khan Junejo as Prime Minister of Pakistan on March 20, 1985, Junejo fulfilled his promise of lifting the Martial Law.

What’s the street price for getting the Hawaiian state government to issue a press release stating you were born there?

What I found interesting, is that the 1981 article referenced the L.A. street prices. That is when Obama left L.A. and moved on to NYC. During the time that he was in L.A., is the same time frame that the people in Connecticut who match up with some SSN's that Obama has used, died.

Obama arrives in NYC and is living in an apartment that is walking distance from the apartment of Billy Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. He would have to go out of his way to avoid walking by their place on his way to classes at Columbia. During this same time frame, Bernardine Dohrn was in the business of stealing people's identities and selling phony IDs (as well as planning the million dollar Brink's robbery where they killed three police officers).

So how did a young man who arrived in New York in early June 1981, without the price of a hotel room in his pocket, suddenly come up with the price of a round-the-world trip just a month later?

“So how did a young man who arrived in New York in early June 1981, without the price of a hotel room in his pocket, suddenly come up with the price of a round-the-world trip just a month later?”

No idea. Maybe his travel companion was wealthy. Maybe he had cut-rate accommodations on a tramp steamer.

But that’s all immaterial to the question.

As a side note, I am not entirely convinced that he actually went to Pakistan in 1981 as he claims.

As I understand it, the trip is not mentioned in either of his books. The first news of it was in 2008, I think. At the time he was trying desperately to cultivate some kind of veneer of foreign policy experience.

I’d lay even money on the possibility that he just made the whole thing up.
