Looks like the Liberals at Berkley and other California Colleges are finally getting what they asked for. Maybe they should have used that college education to do a little more research on who they were voting for.

32% Inflation on UCLA Tuition. 14 Arrests one student Tazered are the reports I received from students. Tomorrow their will be another one at 10am.

Sorry Conservatives that go to College in California. Best advice I have for you is to wake you fellow students up!

The end result of two things:

Plyler v. Doe

and

The overthrow of Prop 187 by Gray Davis.

In the end, the chickens do indeed come home to roost.

Why shouldn’t the IQ-rich pay their ‘fair share’? :-)

This is just the first salvo. The Enormous State Universities around the US are going to start to collapse sooner rather than later. They were created with the idea of endless, double digit growth forever.

But the salad days are over. The ones that will prosper need to make contingencies of what to do if there is a 25% reduction in their budget from all sources, a 50% reduction, and even a 75% reduction.

College sports will likely be reduced to just ticket sales. Just enough to keep playing. Degrees will be based on whatever company says they will employ the graduates. If only 100 engineers are needed, only 110 will be graduated.

Most liberal arts graduates will be in it for their own entertainment, not needing a job when they graduate. A ton of degrees will dry up entirely, as will most electives.

It’s hard to tell what happens from that point. A lot of employers will dispense with the need for college degrees entirely.

As a conservative student in the Political Science department at UCLA in the 1970s, i tried to impress on the leftists who dominated the graduate student population how fortunate we were to go to a university for $208.50 per quarter. I’ll bet the current crowd is developing some appreciation.

These students should be happy that they are now The Rich, at least as far as the State of California is concerned.

Sometimes “change” isn’t for the better. Good practical lesson for these college stoodints.

Hope ‘n Change, indeed.

As the holder of a fist full of degrees from the University of California, from the days when there was no tuition, it saddens me to see tuition at all, let alone tuition that approaches some private colleges.

The promise of the University of California, from the 1860s until the past decade or so, was that no Californian who could get it would pay tuition. There were some fees, books to be bought, and room and board to take care of, but it was essentially free. And, until Berkeley became a radical hotbed in the 1960s, the people of California, and the legislature, were happy to give the University the resources it needed to be a world class university. The University of California was a very special collection of campuses - over the past century tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of talented Californians without substantial means were able to get first rate undergraduate, graduate, and professional educations without going into substantial debt.

That said, the State of California has screwed the pooch in spending money profligately and the University has not been a good steward of the money the people have given it. So, I suppose these increases are necessary and justified.

But, it's still sad.

Maybe these students should ask the faculty to describe their pension plans.

Best advice I have for you is to transfer to a college that is not a chickensh*t socialist whorehouse in disguise.

Damn, I love that. I really broke out laughing. Got it right!

And it's probably about time. Aside from the worthlessness of the degree programs, an actual degree is nearly worthless now. It goes along with the mentality of 'everyone should go to college.' Idiots fail to see that also means 'no one should go to college.'

Red on red violence. Good.

My sympathies are with the students, at least the non-basketweaving majors, but to be honest, this bubble is like real estate, there are so many guilty parties it is hard to be sympathetic to anyone. Games of raising tuition based on no other reason than they can get away with it, and left wing politics have been going on since I graduated a long time ago.

Have a nice riot, students. And if any of the solutions to thie crisis include diverting more taxpayer money, instead of lowering costs, the taxpayers should be the next to riot.

I’m sure all the Asian Design, Women’s Studies and Black History majors have nothing to fear.

They’re SURE to make their tuition money back in the real world!

LOL

I should say ‘many’ degree programs (liberal arts and humanities, says the English major I).
