This is either a fundamental character flaw and he cannot help himself -- because by now he got briefings for sure in Singapore on the FIRE STORM stateside in reaction to his Saturday bow to the Japanese Emperor, or, this is deliberate as a way to--as some assert--bow to everyone so he has a clever come- back that the highly unpopular King Saudi bow would have been for anyone (particularly with anti-Islamofascism sentiment in the USA running the highest it has since he took office). For whatever reason, it is obvious he is not knocking it off, and he does not do this back in the US culture (I did not see him do it in Europe), so what gives? Who knows, maybe it is a way to cover up the Japan fiasco itself. He might be bowing and scraping all across the Pacific on this one, trying to cover his tracks from before but create new messes. What an idiot.
It does not appear to me at least to be as egregious, culturally oaf-ish and perhaps even insulting as the Tokyo Bowshake, but nevertheless it merits analysis.
Bowing in Asia is a given, but two problems here Not that deep and certainly on his part, not to be done like this from a person of his stature (position), representing all 215 million of us, and our mighty military, when he is abroad. It might just be a larger part of this "citizen of the world" (sic) thingy going on his his brain and that of his senior most advisors and staff and most of his following.
Pardon me while I take leave here. I think I need 37 hits of vodka for each month left that I will be counting down.
