My grandfather is a Marine who was a forward air controller on the way to the invasion. His mission was to go ashore days ahead and coordinate air strikes to soften the beaches. He most likely would have been killed. Those two bombs saved his life. Damn right it was the right thing to do. Conventional fire bombing of Tokyo killed over 100,000 in one night alone.
Elections have consequences.
America has an anti-American president.
0bama spits on the efforts of your grandfather, as well as all the other brave troops who actually did something to keep us safe and free.
The day after Iran gets the bomb, there will be a mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv. Obama will have not trouble justifying that.
He does that day in and day out. He also shits on the Constitution.
My Dad was on his way as part of the invasion force that would have landed on the Japanese home islands. He told me they had already been told that there could be up to one million casualties. He said in all the other invasions he was a part of in the Pacific (including the Philippines, Okinawa), he never felt like he would die. But he felt he would die in the invasion of Japan. Like you believe about your grandfather, I believe the dropping of those bombs saved his life, and the lives of millions of others on both sides.
Beta male still continuing his apology world tour?
So Harry Truman goes under the bus (if there is any room down there).
OBAMMY has a yellow streak running down his back. OBAMMY is a COWARD!
Your grandfather would not have been killed had Truman agreed at the outset to let the emperor remain in power. An invasion was not necessary. In any case, the INTENTIONAL mass slaughter of babies and little old ladies is unjustified under the ancient rules of war.
HOw is refusing to support the INTENTIONAL mass slaughter of babies and Japanese Christians (Nagasaki was the center of Japanese Christianity) showing cowardice? Please note that I think Obama is an evil man....but in this he is right. It is morally wrong under the ancient rules of war to use terror as a weapon against civilians. If the Japanese had done this to us, we would have prosecuted them for war crimes.
I’m curious. How many aircraft carriers does the enemy get under the ancient rules of war? Do they get to murder prisoners (Bataan Death March), rape and defile entire cities (Nanking), mindlessly kill long after it is obvious that they’ve lost the battle (Iwo Jima, Gaudalcanal, Tarawa, Okinawa), and deceive their youth into suicide attacks that can’t possibly affect the outcome (Kamikaze)?
My Poip was a combat engineer in the 4th ID. Hit Utah Beach on D-Day, fought accross France, got bad frostbite in the huertgen Forest, finished the War in Bavaria.
The 4th ID [and Dad] were scheduled to redeploy to the Pacific for the invasion of Japan. He flat out told me the A-bombs probably saved his life. He’d have a few choice words for Il Douche if he was still with us.
The Rape of Nanking, the Bataan Death March, rape of women WERE crimes under the ancient rules of war, hence the Japanese were prosecuted for war crimes (and justly so). The other acts were against purely military targets, not against defenseless babies in cradles and strollers. If we truly had adopted "the all is fair in war approach" advocated by many apologists for the bombs, we would have let them bask in retirement along with Harry Truman. Thanks for helping to illustrate my point.
