Here is video of MSNBC's Ed Schultz interviewing Louisiana Rep. Joseph Cao, the only Republican to vote for the House Health Care Bill.

Schultz asked Cao "do you think you went with the majority in your district?" Cao answered "absolutely my district is 75% democrat, 64% minority, and we have a very poor population." Cao called his vote "a vote of conscience, a vote to serve the needs of my people down here in this district."

Cao said that he has had some fundraisers canceled on him and some donors have requested their money back. Schultz asked him "is this going to cause a lot of problems for you down the road with the Republican party?" Cao answered "I don't believe so" because it's his duty to "represent" his people.

Cao said he is not considering switching to the Democrat party because he believes that he can better serve his people as a Republican...(Video)

I’d rather watch Chrissie and Olbie “together” than Ed Schultz by himself...

LOL! Cao has so much “guts” he waited until 218 “yes” votes were cast, then threw his in the hopper. What a man of conviction.

Ed Schultz was a Conservative, but, seeing the competition was full of conservative talkers, decided to become a “Liberal” talker...my guess, is that Lib talkers can get 1/50 the ratings Conservatives get, and stay on the air.

Evidently Mr. Cao longs for the re-education camps of communist Viet Nam.

How pathetic that he is so lacking in integrity and courage to speak the truth rather than bow down to a fascist president making empty promises.

Well, this clown just signed his political death certificate.
Any Republican that appears on the talking horse show is about as useful as an empty beer bottle.

Representative Cao may have voted like a cow, and while I agree that he is a weak opportunist trying to save his political career, I think that he may have gotten the green light by the GOP to do so. They let him vote last, right after the 218th vote (needed to pass the bill). His constituents are 64% minority and the district overwhelmingly Democrats at 75%. To take him out in the next election, the Dimrats will have to spend a whole lot more money now. It’s all politics, nothing new. Not a bad move, if you think about it, to preserve a Republican seat in an otherwise overwhelmingly Democrat district. Pelosi already had enough votes in the House to ram this bill through. What would it have accomplished if Cao voted against it? Principle and conviction, certainly, though arguably lofty. But preservation of a Republican seat in the next election is more important, no? Cao was staunchly against Cap and Trade, wasn’t he? We shall see if Cao’s gamble will pay out come election day.

every time a RINO caves in to to keep democrats happy, we conservatives and yes- “moderates”- lose an opportunity to educate the lower class about why this bill was bad policy and a threat to their freedom and the future of their children

we help keep them on the democrat plantation

the truly “poor” are already on the plantation with MEDICAID, the VA health system, and MEDICARE. So why are those programs being CUT so taxpayers will be forced to guarantee health insurance for middle class yuppies.

Cao missed an opportunity to really find out who in his district was uninsured and why and what to do about it. AND TO EDUCATE THEM. Voting for the Pelosi pig in a poke was an act of $1.4 trillion symbolism. Business as usual in DC.

Voting stupid to keep stupid constituents fat dumb and happy is bad politics, bad civics, immoral and bad for America. Bad enough we have one party doing it. God save us if both do.

Cao’s family didn't come to America for govt healthcare.

No doubt that Cao is spineless. He’s proven himself to be just another invertebrate politician. I’m disappointed, but I can see his reasons.
