It's clear that Barack Obama was raised as a Muslim for at least part of his childhood. He was registered as a Muslim at Fransiskus Assisi school in Jakarta (see line 4 here which says "Islam" for his religion) and he can recite the Arabic Call to Prayer "with a first-rate accent" (the Call to Prayer is a variant of the Muslim statement of faith). Both his father and stepfather were Muslim. It's my suspicion that his religion is what he's hiding on his long form birth certificate.

That said, I don't think Barack Obama ever really believed in Islam just like I don't think he really believes in Christianity. His mother seems to have been a somewhat militant atheist and I wouldn't be surprised if he was, too. Overall, I think he's too much of a narcissist for religion.

If you really want to put Barack Obama on the spot during an interview, ask him this:

"President Obama, your father was a Muslim, your stepfather was a Muslim, you father's family is Muslim, you were registered as a Muslim in school in Indonesia and friends described you taking Muslim religious classes with them in Indonesia, so why aren't you a Muslim? Why did you reject the Islam that was all around you and choose to get baptized into Jeremiah Wright's Christian church?"

I'd love to see him grapple for a politically correct and inoffensive answer to that one.
