Just the tip of the iceberg showing itself again.
Plame was outed by the CIA itself, which means it was a fake controversy, which is to say, “yet” another fake controversy. Meanwhile the Times printed on page one details about CIA operations one right after another. Details about how we were tracking Al Qaeda money transfers, tracking Bin Ladin’s satellite telephone, details about Al Qaeda cell phone communications, details about prisoner transfers, CIA safe houses, even ID numbers on CIA flights and aircraft. Those were real security breaches perpetrated by insiders who used the Times as their safe drop. Their handlers could read all about it over tea and no one had to run any risk of getting caught and imprisoned.
It disturbs me that no one went to jail over any of this.
So exposing CIA connections to Karzai’s family is not surprising. Its not surprising that CIA has a relationship with them, and its not surprising that traitors on the inside would expose it and its not surprising that the Times would let itself be used for the information transfer. Its what they do.
Good post, which brings me back to the heart of this issue, which is really the most important thing to me:
If Democrats and/or the New York Times wanted someone punished for the outing of Valerie Plame, then will they call for someone to be punished in the outing of Karzai’s brother?
Rhetorical question. They only call for punishment and investigations when a Republican is president.
