The maples and other showy trees are done now. The weather has turned dour again and the maple leaves are falling fast. These are pictures taken (mostly) around town near the end of the high season. Most are maples, but there are other trees, including a cherry and a willow oak.

Very nice! I’m planning a short trip up to Giles County an early December. Hopefully the weather will be decent!

The Old Farmer’s Almanac says cold with snow showers. But as long as the snow doesn’t break out into a blizzard, Giles County looks very pretty with a coating of snow on the mountains.

PS — Drive the speed limit. No, I personally haven’t been ticketed, but I’ve seen and I’ve heard. Not necessarily bad news — the state police nailed my Ex once :>)

I noticed how pretty it was in the Appalachians last weekend. Glad I had my video camera with me!

The pleasant part of autumn is over for us in the north. Now it is just bare trees and grey skies but we had one of the most colorful autumns I can remember.

This picture doesn't do it justice but the trees had green, yellow and red all at one time.

This tree, from the site, looks like it's on fire. Very nice.

Thanks. It was late afternoon & the sun was angling in from left-of-frame. Helped bring out the colors.

I was in that area in Oct 2005. I was coming down off the mountains near Bluefield on I-77 into VA. Sunday morning, about 10am not a cloud in the sky or a car on the road.

I don't think I even had my foot on the accelerator and was going about 75-80. Yup. Nailed me. Some sheriff's dept. Can't remember which it was. He got a chuckle out of it. At least one of us did.
