In her statement Saturday morning, the assemblywoman explained the reasons behind her decision: "It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so."

During the day Saturday, she began to quietly and thoughtfully encourage her supporters to vote for Democrat William L. Owens.

OMG!

And I am reminded how lord McCain wanted so badly to be on JFKerry pres ticket. These people need to be sent out to some green field to graze the rest of their days.

“Thoughtfully,” no less. What a surprise. She’s really a thinker, I guess.

Give your money to Club For Growth. Their support of Toomey convinced Specter he couldn’t win a Republican primary; their support of Hoffman drew everyone’s attention to this race.

There is nothing in the article that shows she said that, other than the line created by the writer, of a paper endorsing the RAT.

The "props" this paper gives to RATowens sounds like some flowery self written wedding vows.

If she was to do that and there is ANY proof, email, audio or otherwise, she just took the local and national GOP sliver of respect and sh*t on it. Unless she decided to retire from politics, there is no party that would take a "traitor" and run it/her for serious office.

It is distinctly possible that the Watertown Paper is a left of center publication who wishes Owens to win? Whom did they endorse?

For a member of Congress, there may be a time to promote reform in Washington, but there is also a time to work within a system that best serves the people you represent.

It is frightening that Mr. Hoffman is so beholden to right-wing ideologues who dismiss Northern New Yorkers as parochial when people here simply want to know how Mr. Hoffman will protect their interests in Washington.

So just how is Doug Hoffman "beholden" to right wing ideologues and we now have "representative government" as a means to protect our entitlements in DC ? .

Interesting how "The Conservative Party" is an ideologue yet the multiple progressive organization in DC and around the country are not ????

“During the day Saturday, she began to quietly and thoughtfully encourage her supporters to vote for Democrat William L. Owens.”
Thats the extent of the story as it relates to her backing Owens. The rest is the papers endorsement of Owens. I would have appreciated them fleshing out the story a bit. How odd to mix actual breaking news, for that what it is,with an endorsement.

The only national political party to endorse and work for Doug Hoffman before Scozzafava exited stage Left:

America's Independent Party

AIP is a Meta-Party

Platform

Affiliation Agreement

The Reagan List

America's Summit

she is a traitor and should be shamed and thrown out of the GOP.

She and the GOP are traitors, and should be shamed and thrown out.

There, I fixed it.

The way they said William L. Owens makes me think the paper has a lot to do with it...it looks more like a political endorsement than a piece of news.

Hoffman and the pledge you claim he made

"Doug Hoffman looked me in the eyes, raised his right hand and pledged to support the Republican nominee in this district. He then turned around and declared his candidacy for this seat, rendering his oath utterly meaningless. Doug Hoffman lacks the basic integrity we need in our Congressional Representative." -- Jefferson County Republican Party Chairman Don Coon

I knew it, I KNEW it!
I called this yesterday as soon as it came out she was withdrawing. I posted that she'd endorse the RAT.

Again, without citing a source, this paper says she is supporting Hoffman:

I think the article cited in this post is an attempt to by the Watertown Daily to show support for their new endorsement. They are a left leaning paper and I suspect would use any means to bolster their new endorsement of Owens. Much like others will use various means to bolster their positions or party.

From the article:

http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20091101/OPINION01/311019918/-1/OPINION

A changed race

snip:
In her statement Saturday morning, the assemblywoman explained the reasons behind her decision: “It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so.”

During the day Saturday, she began to quietly and thoughtfully encourage her supporters to vote for Democrat William L. Owens. [This without any substaination] ........

The Watertown Daily Times initially endorsed Ms. Scozzafava as the best-qualified candidate in the race. We still think she is. However, in suspending her campaign she released her supporters’ commitment to her. That left voters to choose between Mr. Owens and Mr. Hoffman.

Of the two, Bill Owens is by far the superior and only choice........

The Times endorses Bill Owens for Congress.

end snips.....

Aim those comments at the NY State GOP Chair and the County Chairs in the District who kept under wraps what happened with her nomination. RNC and NRCC are bound by rules to support the nominee UNLESS there was something fraudulent about the nomination. Once that came out this week, you saw the waterfall start.

They should have looked deeper but that’s not their job, it was the responsibility of the NY GOP Chair to tell them her background and the fact that the Conservative Party would have supported anyone but her which should have set off bells. She has already said in the past that she might turn Democrat.

Some accounts coming out of NY have their State Chair in on this whole deal. The whole District Committee that supported her should resign including her best friend who is a County Chair. They perpetrated a fraud on the voters of the Congressional District.

If the GOP continues to support candidates like Dede, the party is done for. How many Olympia Snowe’s, Susan Collins and Arlen Specter’s (even Dubya supported him over Pat Toomey) do they need in order to realize that if they are not a party that proves that it is a REAL alternatice to Democrats, the people might as well vote for the real deal?
