Perry Reacts To Cheney's Endorsement Of His Opponent: 'I'd Stick With Sarah' Palin

Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) is brushing off former Vice President Dick Cheney's endorsement of Perry's primary challenger, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison -- saying he'd rather have his current support from Sarah Palin.

Perry touted an upcoming endorsement from Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, as evidence of Republican support. Perry was then asked if he would rather have Cheney or Palin, who endorsed him back in February.

Perry's response: "I think I'd stick with Sarah."

I was listening to a local talk show here in Houston a couple of nights ago and they were interviewing the political writer for The Texas Monthly Magazine. He's based in Austin and he believes that Hutchison will choose not to resign from the Senate in December and that he thinks the odds slightly favor her NOT filing for the governor's race by the January deadline.

He acknowledges Hutchison's vote-getting prowess in general elections but thinks she simply cannot beat Perry in the primary.

I hope it doesn’t manifest itself that way and I really don’t think it will. I really don’t see a correlation between Obama/McCain and a Texas conservative against either Sharp/White. I guess it comes down to who really gets into the race.

Florence Shapiro, Roger Williams, Michael Lawrence Williams and Elizabeth Ames are the most mentioned and have been out raising money. But I think others such as Dewhurst or Barton may get in if Hutchison will get out early enough. I know the jungle election on May 8 can bring forth an upset if the GOP can’t settle on a strong candidate to back. But I believe they can.

Why would Cheney endorse KBH!?

Because the only side of Cheney we know is his being a Hawk on defending this nation. Otherwise it looks like he's just like Bush - a NWO believer.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering what ever happened to KBH’s pledge to resign, she had made such a big deal about it.

I doubt Palin wants anything to do with Perry.

I’d take Perry over Kay any day.

It will be interesting what Bill White does if KBH ultimately backs out of the gubernatorial race. He's said he's interested in the Senate but would he change his mind and run against Perry? That would be interesting.

The Texas Monthly political writer I talked about earlier thinks John Sharp wouldn't stand a chance against Perry but a race with Bill White would be a brutal battle.

Bill White and Kinky Friedman...now there's a contrast. I might cross over and vote for Kinky just for the hell of it if Perry is unopposed...LOL.

Maybe Cheney was giving the “Kiss of Death” to KBH....

The news media is on this like stink on a turd!

Cheney may have ignited the conservatives in Texas to pay closer attention.

I’ll support Perry or Debra Medina but never again Hutchison
