I had a former employee call me earlier today inquiring about a job, and at the end of the conversation he gave me his phone number. I asked the former employee if this was a new cell phone number and he told me yes this was his Obama phone. I asked him what an Obama phone was and he went on to say that welfare recipients are now eligible to receive (1) a FREE new phone and (2) approx 70 minutes of FREE minutes every month. I was a little skeptical so I Googled it and low and behold he was telling the truth. TAX PAYER MONEY IS BEING REDISTRIBUTED TO WELFARE RECIPIENTS FOR FREE CELL PHONES. This program was started earlier this year. Enough is enough, the ship is sinking and its sinking fast. The very foundations that this country was built on are being shaken. The age old concepts of God, family, and hard work have flown out the window and are being replaced with Hope and Change and Change we can believe in. why would they need a cell phone...some of us can't and don't have to have them???? ....what next???
Do they come with Bluetoof?
I researched it and the subsidy is $10/mo. The big advantage for Tracfone (the corporate entity tied to this) is that you can add extra minutes. Right now after you discount the purchase of the phone less the initial minutes, a Tracfone like this probably costs about $10/mo. anyway (actually a little less since that is the phone I use). I wonder how many additional minutes get purchased by these “poor” people. That would be a real interesting statistic to get ahold of.
Apparently for a long time the government has been assisting in providing land lines for the poor.
It’s not just for people on ‘welfare’.....they may not be on welfare at all...
You didn’t know about this? Up here in Mass they advertise this on TV. Must need to encourage more usage.
Both my wife and I are unemployed. I am sooooo tempted.
Write this up as a self-esteem increasing program and you could probably get funding for it.
I checked out the link(s) and it does not appear to be “free” it is subsidized with a discount of around 20ish percent. So there is still a bill that needs to be paid, and a warning that if not paid, services will be terminated.
I didn't believe these kinds of things until a buddy of mine started doing an internship with child services. What she described was enough to make anyone sick.
Six of one. So in order to stop paying for deadbeats' luxuries I need to stop paying for my own. WTF?

Oops. Fat fingers.
