Gawd that was a great, excruciating book, “Endurance.”

Try “Shackelton’s Boat Journey”, by F.A. Worsley. Worsley was the Captain of the Endurance as was among the men chosen by Shackleton to make the crossing to South Georgia.
“Shackelton’s Boat Journey” covers a lot of the same ground as “Endurance” but I found its grit and grain of its story telling very compelling. Highly recommended even for someone who has already read “Endurance”.

Thanks, I’ll look for it. Gonna be hard to top “Endurance,” though.

Thanks, paints a better picture of Sarah than most I’ve seen yet. Thought I’d ping Solid Wood that she might add it to her list.

For scientific leadership give me Scott; for swift and efficient travel, Amundsen; but when you are in a hopeless situation, where there seems no way out, get down on your knees and pray for Shackleton.
(Attributed to Raymond Priestly but appears in essence elsewhere including in Apsley Cherry-Garrard's Worst Journey in the World).

Sorry man, not buying it.
One is a small time pol, the other endured horrible conditions and saved ALL of his men. IOW, a real leader.
NOT even in the same class. Sorry.
SaraH is nice, talks a good game and all that but Shackelton she is NOT.
Then again, you can tell a lot about a person from the people they admire.
