“Only a constitutional crisis of a type not seen in America’s history could return that right to individuals en masse.” I gather you don’t think that we’re in such a crisis. Many of us think we are.

You really think we are now in a crisis surpassing the Civil War and the Revolutionary War in severity? Even in those convulsions of violence, it was understood that the state, or states, in some form, were the sovereign powers in the territories which they governed.

Do you really think you are, right now, a sovereign individual, with a monopoly on legitimate violence over the territory which you occupy, the right promulgate and enforce laws effective over your domain, to send and receive ambassadors, to enter into treaties? Do you foreswear allegiance to any other power, being a sovereign subject to no state?

It's easy to talk about sovereignty. It's a lot harder to prove that you have it.
