Burr was not a former VP, but the incumbent VP.Technically correct, but Burr was already dropped from Jefferson's ticket. He wasn't going to be re-elected VP and was attempting to run for governor of NY -- a move that was blocked by his political rivals. Burr blamed Hamilton, precipitating the duel.
