Yes, I saw the same story many months ago during the 2008 presidential campaign.

One explanation that pro-Obama put out was this: The Illinois question was only asking if the applicant had practiced law in Illinois under any other name.

I'm not sure if the pro-Obama people were correct or incorrect in their interpretation of the question on the Illinois application.

On the other hand, if you get a chance to look at the Hawaii state bar application, you will see that Hawaii not only asks if you have used any other name in your life, it also asks the applicant specifically to list those names, to post the dates he changed his names, and to explain in detail why the applicant changed his name or names over the years.
