I wondered when the Magic Negro parody would resurface. I didn’t hear it during yesterday’s broadcast but I didn’t listen to all three hours.

Yet, the term “Magic Negro” was applied to Obama March 19, 2007, by Los Angeles Times columnist David Ehrenstein, who is African-American.

I'm shocked - SHOCKED! - that David Ehrenstein is black!

The term “magic negro” has actually been used by more than one journalist. They tend to be creatures of the herd. When one does something pretty soon they are all doing it.

The jist of it is usually that Hollywood’s use of the “magic negro” is evidence that America is racist. When, in reality, what it really proves is that Hollywood is racist, and just can’t help themselves.

This is a rather common theme, the idea that Hollywood’s use of racial stereotypes somehow is evidence of America’s failings, when it really shows that Hollywood hasn’t grown up yet.
