Can't open IE7

I need help!!!!

After much back and forth with other browsers, I found that I needed to get back to IE7. So I installed it, but when I go to open it up, it appears for a split second and vanishes. So I have to revert to Firefox, which I am having other issues with.

As usual, the Microsoft website was of little help (a few others had this problem, but the solutions were of no help).

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, I switched to Ubuntu 9.04.

Could perhaps have some anti spyware running that accidentally added IE7 to its list?

I would download it from here and re-install it.

Most likely cause is infection.

Which antivirus do you run?

Any additional anti-spyware, anti-trojanware, aftermarket firewall?

The reason your Internet explorer is closing as you open it is because an add-on is causing an error when you open it.

Go to Control Panel, double click Internet Options, click the Programs Tab and then Manage add-ons on the bottom of the page, then disable any non Microsoft ActiveX controls.

Once you have done the above click on close, then OK then restart IE.

You can disable or enable plug in controls this way until you find the culprit that is causing IE to crash.

Do you get an error message? If you do, post as much of what you remember it said. This will give an indication where the problem is originating from.

Try this to completely uninstall MSIE 8 (even if you think it is removed):

Reboot.

Then, do this to uninstall MSIE 7:

Reboot.

Now, try this to install MSIE 7:

Reboot.

Should work okay, but FireFox is less error-prone and faster.

Thank you so much! I was having a different issue, I’m using Google Chrome and was finding that something called Shockwave kept crashing and jamming up my whole system. I’ve just disabled it following your instructions.

YMMV.  Depending on the number of add-ons and extensions, this is true.  The more Firefox extensions and add-ons are installed the more bloated and sluggish Firefox becomes.

Download “IE Tab” for firefox, then you can open a page withing firefox using the IE rendering engine. So says my wife, user of IE Tab.

I’m still using IE6. Every attempt to install IE7 or IE8 has resulted in the loss of the ability to use any of my HP document scanners and the subsequent task of putting everything back the way it was before IR7 or 8 came on the scene.

I use Ubuntu (not Unbuntu) on my netbook. Very simple installation, screams with speed, automatically updates to latest software, no viruses, (no long drawn out virus scans).
Spent $230 on the netbook, $0 for the software. (If it dies I throw it away) It does just about everything I need to do. What more do you want?

I use firefox with no issues at all. IE on the other hand sucks, or at least it used to and I have no desire to go back to it. Can’t help except to say maybe a virus.
