I tried watching the video but couldn't take it, about two minutes of his delusions was enough. And Wee Willie couldn't remember when he was last there because he was prolly drunk out of his skull at the time.

But I don't think his raspy voice is from smoking. IMO it's from swilling booze every waking moment and finally falling off the Bar Stool at Bukowksi's at 2:00 am, nearly comatose.

It is definitely a smokers voice. Which means the cigarettes are eating away at his throat. It is astonishing the rapidity of his decline. In early 2005 his voice was normal...and now this.
