Just because a significant proportion thought he should have just let it go doesn’t mean they agree with the instructor. It might mean they know he’s wrong but just didn’t feel that was the most auspicious time to sort it out.

The go-along-to-get-along attitude is not identical to agreement. It means just what it says. Going along with something you know is wrong, just to get along, is harmful to all of us.
