So was the great emancipator Lincoln. Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth, were also Republicans. Republicans started the NAACP. In 1964, the chief opponents of the Civil Rights Act were Democrat Senators Sam Ervin, Albert Gore, Sr. and Robert Byrd. These overlooked facts have always confused me. Now I am not saying I love Republicans because I am pretty much discouraged by both parties at this juncture...we'll have to see what 2010 brings.
