“IF YOU ARE BLACK AND POOR YOU ARE A DEMOCRAT” There is a certain irony in this statement that somehow does not register with “poor blacks”. Is there a direct relationship between “poor” and “democrat”? Democrats mantra seems to be
the poor the poor but their action is not to correct but rather to politicize the plight of the poor. Poor is poor, black or white. LBJ. a good Democrat, declared war on poverty back in the 60s but poverty persists. It persisted through Kennedy, Johnson, Eisenhouer, Nixon, Ford, Bush, Clinton, Bush and now Obama. And we are still working hard for the poor but the poor remain poor, isn’t that passing strange? Politicians get rich, Executives get rich, the crooks get rich, some are in the aforementioned class, the middle class are reasonably comfortable but the poor remain poor. Does everyone live off of the backs of the poor, and if they do, where do the poor get the wealth? In the year 2004 welfare expenditure was $3.75 trillion, that’s one year, the accumulated national debt is 11.8 trillion. It seems we spend a lot of money without positive results. The poor remain in the camp of the Democrats...Strange indeed.

Tell him to read some history. From the 1850’s until almost 1950 it was axiomatic that black Americans would be Republicans, and the 1950 Civil Rights bills were passed over Democrat filibusters, led by Lyndon Johnson. Voting for one party didn’t work then and won’t work now.

Buy him the book “Unfounded Loyalty” by Jesse Lee Peterson and let him educate himself the way the Reverend did. Both my Dh and I read it then passed it on to several balck friends. It really opened a few eyes. One sat after he read it and went online to find the info and about 1/2 way through he said he felt betrayed by his community and that he had been lied to all of his life about the Democratic party.

The page link was blank, but if you’re referring to the oft-cited article, it’s been debunked. Repeatedly. Only his father could be found to have been a registered Republican, but only until early 1960 and he voted and supported leftist Democrats from the ‘60 election onward. MLK, Jr. was a Socialist and became more and more radicalized until his death. This subject has been discussed numerous times on FR.

Don’t expect anyone to. It’s just that that article has popped up numerous times since it was initially written. Some of the points were correct, the historical racism of the Democrat party, but some were glaring errors, namely citing that Socialist Party member and union activist A. Philip Randolph was a Republican, and, lastly, the very subject of the article, MLK Jr. himself.

The problem was that it should’ve been emphasized WHY they should’ve been Republicans, but there was no evidence they were, and MLK Jr. himself had very little use for Conservative Republicans, calling Goldwater a tool of Southern racists. MLK Jr. was a true believer in big (federal) government to solve the problems of the Black community, and there’s nothing “Republican” about that.

If it is important for him to hear testimonies from other black men I will echo those that talk about those such as Thomas Sowell. I’d add to that Bob Parks (a Freeper, btw...) as his “Black and Right” program is a must-see.

Some day the scales will come off a great many eyes.

I am a friend of Ercille Christmas. She is a brilliant and wonderful Conservative and patriot.
