CNN has gone self service with its CNN Wire web site.

From Fishbowl DC

CNN launched a self-service, e-commerce site for its wire stories today. The new storefront makes it simple to license single CNN stories online. For $199 per story for a single use, visitors can pay with a credit card and download content immediately.

Earlier this year, CNN expanded the offerings of its existing wire service by making it available for subscription. Now via the online store, CNN offer a la carte, single use content on demand.

Interesting content distribution pay model. Check it out for yourself at www.cnnwirestore.com.

I read the FAQ at:http://www.cnnwirestore.com//Articles.asp?ID=133

I just can't figure it out - I can't imagine anyone buying one story from CNN for use on their own web site for $199 - unless CCN is making a case for suing people for posting their stories on the internet.

$199?! I could not believe it. Perhaps it’s a typo. Maybe the price is $1.99 like an iTunes TV episode. I checked out the site. Indeed, they want $199. CNN is even more daft than I thought.

I read the title in a different way—that CNN would publish whatever you wanted for $199. Not the actual facts, but it is amusing that I would have even entertained the possibility from the title.

If it is publish whatever story you want for $199, it is only because they refuse to do their jobs as journalists ... the reason MSM is in the tank.
