Illegal Immigrant Health Care

by: Sarah Carlsruh, September 14, 2009

The new health care reform bill explicitly bans healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants, but it lacks a key component, which is some way to enforce it. According to a study by the Center for Immigration Studies, “there are 6.6 million uninsured illegal immigrants in the United States who could be covered by the new health care reform bill.”

Steven Camarota, Director of Research at the Center for Immigration Studies, states that “even though HR 3200 states that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the proposed taxpayer-funded affordable premium credits, there is nothing in the bill to enforce this.” SAVE, the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, is used by 71 federal programs to determine legal status. Although this program could have been used to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer funding, the House Ways and Means Committee defeated a proposed amendment to require the use of SAVE to verify the legal status of those applying for public benefits.

The America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 (HR 3200) would provide affordability credits to assist low-income persons in the purchase of health care. In essence, affordability credits are a voucher given to help pay for private health insurance. The bills other health choice option would be to “enroll in a new government-run health insurance system that the bill would create,” or what is often referred to as the “public option.”

Some are concerned that these tax-funded options may be available to illegal immigrants. While HR 3200 explicitly states that “nothing in this subtitle shall allow federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States,” it still does not have any restrictions against non-citizens benefiting from this Health Insurance Exchange....

"...there are 6.6 million uninsured illegal immigrants in the United States..."

That number is meaningless since illegal alien reform is up next on the agenda. The floodgates will be opened and it won't be long before everyone in the western hemisphere is covered by ObamaCare. INCLUDING THE CUBANS who, according to Fat Mikey, already have the best healthcare in the solar system.

“not lawfully present in the United States”

a stroke of a pen will make them “lawfully” present.....the illegals know this, which is why they’ve been so “quiet” lately, about this and other things

You are correct, the bill does not ban health care benefits to illegals. There is an appointed commission (already appointed) that was set up in the stimulus bill, who will decide policy that will be approved by the Congress. The whole thing is a scam to provide cover for the Democrats. The commission can cover whomever they choose, add a public option or turn the entire health care system into single payer and all Congress will have to do is vote up or down. They won’t even bother to read the report that comes down from the commission, just up or down. That’s the reason that they are considering making concessions. It’s a trick.

Twice, in committee, the republicans wanted to add a proof of citizenship, & enforcement of same, into the bill. The democrats refused both times. Which leaves a bill with a bunch of words that MEAN NOTHING! Any one will be given healthcare.

Absolutely disgusting.

The 6.6 number is very low because the rest of the illegals are already receiving state health care benefits.

Like I said, the ambiguity is intentional. The real force behind the health care bill is the unelected commission that is set up under the stimulus bill, which received bi-partisan support.

The Democrats think that they can pass ANY kind of health care bill and it won’t matter because the commission will add all the other features that the left wants and they can claim that the commission was bi-partisan.

Don’t be fooled. We need a bill that removes the power of the commission (death panel), or nothing at all.
