Liberals often say that education would be better if we paid teachers more. I agree that's true, to the extent that offering higher salaries would draw better applicants for teaching positions.
But what the libs mean is that they want to pay more to these teachers. These teachers, the libs reason, would teach better if they were better paid.
This reasoning exposes a lot of well-covered flaws in liberal thinking, but it also covers some major negligence in liberal action: If you think these teachers aren't already doing their best, then why aren't you firing them? If, as liberals suggest, these teachers are withholding education in a bid for more money, then why do they still have their jobs?
Similarly, Obama's healthcare reform relies on "eliminating hundreds of billions of dollars in waste and fraud, as well as unwarranted subsidies" from Medicare. He proposes to recover this money to pay for his plan, which begs the question: Why isn't he elminating this fraud now??? After all, isn't that his job?
