Pelosi's Response to Losing Battle with Obama, Reid is Crucial
Patriot Room ^ | 9-8-09 | Scott Martin

...But can Nancy Pelosi stand for such a half measure, for putting the socialist paradise off for a few years? Her recent actions suggest not.

While Obama administration officials have made various and sometimes contradictory remarks about the public option, Pelosi has been consistent.

“A bill without a strong public option will not pass the House,” Pelosi said in statement last Thursday. “Eliminating the public option would be a major victory for the insurance companies who have rationed care, increased premiums and denied coverage.”

If Pelosi chooses to stick her guns on this, she will destroy any chance the Democrats have of getting anything done on this issue. I see no way in which a public option passes the Senate, and very little chance of it passing in the House, either, especially against Obama's choice. This would clearly be the best possible result for any opponent of ObamaCare.

The Speaker’s press release pointedly put pressure on the president by quoting him saying “a public option will keep insurance companies honest.” The release also used the word “change” — a theme of Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign — to drive home Pelosi’s point: “Any real change requires the inclusion of a strong public option.”

Deep in the back of my mind, the bad thoughts keep popping up. I think that this issue is so big to Barack Obama, so important to his ego and his legacy and his public image, that he will go full-on Chicago-style if need be. And with Pelosi, he may need to.

Will Obama bring in the heavy hitters, the greasy men with their corrupted souls and the information that could ruin Madam Speaker? Men who would make Rahm Emanuel look like a candidate for sainthood...

IMHO, this is all smoke and mirrors and bait and switch. Obama is on record as wanting the government plan as is Pelosi. They are going to come up with some grand "compromise" that will allow them to get what they want obliquely, after the sham bill with whatever provisions hidden away that will allow it, passes.

That's what they will try...but the American pople are so worked up over this, that enough Dems may jump ship to not allow even that to happen.

At this rate, we could end up with majorities in the House, Senate by 2012 and the Presidency.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people.

If we could count on Pelosi’s integrity, America would be safe from this threat. Why don’t I feel better?

The ruse on this issue, being pushed in the Senate, is to give the “public option” as to be invoked only when a “trigger” - “failure of the private sector plans to lower prices in a set amount of time - makes it kick in.

This is a ruse because SO MUCH in the present plans, without the “trigger” will KNOWINGLY hurt the buyers costs, flexibility and variety of private plans and NEVER help reduce their costs.

But some stupid RINOS will act as if black is white and white is black and the “trigger” will NOT happen (because they will ignore how damage to the private sector plans is inherent in so much else in the proposed plans).
