Here is video of pollster and political analyst Charlie Cook telling MSNBC's Chris Matthews that things are not looking good for Democrats. He pointed to new polling that shows on "Party Identification," Democrats now have only a 5-point advantage over Republicans, 45%-40%. That's down from a 17-point margin in January, 52%-45%. Cook said Party ID is always a "lagging indicator," meaning things have really gone sour for Obama.
He also warned that Democrats face a real problem in next year's mid-term election because mid-terms are almost always dominated by older voters, whom Cook said Obama is weakest with.
Matthews and Cook also talked with the Washington Post's Anne Kornblut about the Obama "School Speech," which Matthews admitted was a fiasco because of the urging by Obama's people that children write about how they could "support President Obama."
They close with Obama's Speech on Health Care next Wednesday to a Joint Session of Congress. Matthews said this speech is the key moment of Obama's first term. If he cannot "unite his party" and pass something, Matthews said Republicans will run against him as having tried to get "death panels" and destroy Health Care.
Cook said several "swing Democrats" are planning not to attend the speech because they don't want to be seen in the chamber during the speech.

Yes. Apart from the respective SotU addresses, both Clinton and Bush addressed a joint session of Congress one time, each. Bush did in the aftermath of 9/11 and Clinton did in an attempt to launch his insurance take-over scam - how ironic.

Matthews may have realized that the tingle going up his leg when he listened to Obama was a premonition of the injection from his "end of life counselor" spreading. Matthews isn’t getting any younger, you know, and if his life depended on his ratings he’d have been interred a long time ago.

I love how the Post chickie talks about "unrealistic expectations" regarding the upcoming congressional speech. "Like he didn't have unrealistic expectations when he took office". Gee, I wonder who built up those expectations? Remember all the "halo" photos the press put out? Sheesh, you'd think these reporters forget everything they did and said the second their heads hit the pillow.

I wish the next conservative guest on Matthews would ask him why he keeps protecting BO and why he thinks it’s ok to have a president that surrounds himself with anti-Americans. I would love to see him answer that!

Compile a database of enemies from social networks, like Facebook, and find ways to intimidate them. Find ways to silence and intimidate talk radio, Fox News, internet blogs. Audit tax returns and find other ways to harass and prosecute opponents. Set up some circuses, like prosecuting CIA agents, John Ashcroft, Dick Cheney. Create more support by removing people from the tax rolls and/or legalizing their immigration status and organize them into goon squads to attack protestors and voters in Republican districts. Imprison protestors. All sorts of things.
When the rats run out of ideas, they can always consult Putin, Chavez, or Ahmadinejad. They know how to handle dissent.
All good ideas. It’ll be interesting to see if they really have the competence to pull it off.
My bet based on watching this bunch is ‘no’.
