Here is video of Glenn Beck yesterday tracing the history of the so-called, "Fairness Doctrine," and the work of the Franklin Roosevelt created Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The FCC was formed in 1934, and Roosevelt used radio to push his New Deal programs. Roosevelt would deny certain programs to go on the air, and the FCC required stations to put New Deal spokesman on the air two and three times a week.
In 1949, the FCC instated a policy that came to be known as the "Fairness Doctrine." Stations were required to give equal time to opposing opinions of controversial issues. As a result, many broadcasters just avoided discussion of controversial matters for fear of being fined.
This was rolled back during the Reagan Administration, and in 1987 the FCC dropped it. Conservative radio took off after that.
Democrats have been trying to find a way to reimpose the Fairness Doctrine, since Liberal Talk Radio has failed miserably.
Beck points out that the new code word by which the Fairness Doctrine may appear is "Diversity," and "Localism." These approaches would require stations to provide "diversity" in broadcasting, and provide enough time to "local community" matters. . . . (Video)

Don’t know why they want a “Fairness Doctrine” all the Leftist and assorted Facists wanna bees always refuse to go on any show that broadcast by Fox or any right of center outlet anyway.
I saw it, I found it educational.
Democrats want to reimpose the Fairness Doctrine, since Liberal Talk Radio has failed miserably. So much for freedom of speech bet the pigs in the msm love it just maybe they can pimp the news papers again.
Well.....OK, Nancy, if you’re sure that’s what you want....It’s going to need to apply to TV news and newsmagazine shows though. No sense applying a “fairness doctrine” to one venue when that venue is the only one that leans in a given direction and all the others go the other way. If you do that, you’re increasing one-sidedness, not reducing it.
Although one would think its important to know which senators cast their votes in favor of censorship, we cant find a single news report that calls out their names. So well do it:
Bingaman (D-NM), Conrad (D-ND), Dorgan (D-ND), Feinstein (D-CA), Harkin (D-IA), Johnson (D-SD), Kerry (D-MA), Reed (D-RI), Rockefeller (D-WV), Sanders (I-VT), and Whitehouse (D-RI).
In addition, Kennedy (D-MA) did not vote, but does anyone doubt that he would have joined them Infamous Eleven had his health been up to it?
