Curt Schilling, the former major league pitcher who won the allegiance of Bostonians by leading the Red Sox to the 2004 World Series, said Wednesday that he has "some interest" in running for the seat held for nearly 50 years by Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

I think it was Theo Epstein who, when asked what Schilling would bring to the Senate said:

“He’d be good at filibusters.”

I don’t remember the last time. We should encourage as many people to run as possible.

Why would he necessarily be bad?

More power to him, but since he isn’t a liberal democrat, the media will insist that he isn’t qualified for such an important position.

It’s not a hard argument to make — and why the media gets away with it. They simply neglect to make a big deal out of experience whenever they want to help the liberals out.

Even the ESPN folks were ragging on Shilling’s lack of experience.

You're referring, of course, to the comment made by Mike Greenberg. During the same conversation Greenberg commented on the Republican flirtation with Mike Ditka for the Illinois senate seat. He went on to reference that the seat was eventually won by Barak Obama... like it was some kind of obscure trivia question. Despite the proximity of the "lack of qualifications" argument made about Schilling, nothing was said about Obama. It would have taken "Brass Ones"... something nice-guy Greenie seriously lacks.

Yeah, like Ted K had loads of experience when he ran as a 30 year old.

But, much as I love Schilling, even in Boston he has a reputation for shooting off his mouth.

I don’t think he would be bad at all. A mule deer would be an improvement over Aquaman.

I was responding to the snickering in come corners, even on this site, who think Schilling isn’t up to the gig.

Schilling is a conservative. Ironically, a sports star would likely be the only conservative to be able to win in Mass as they would have huge name recognition and a large fan base.

I meant the thread. There has only been about 3 or 4 of them.

Seriously

May seem odd, but ESPN is the last place I would turn to for sports opinion. I think most of their talking heads are just news media flunkies with a chip on their shoulder.

As a MA resident, I’d love to see him run. He’s the best shot we have at getting a respectable Senator out of this state.

Oh, please God, speak to him and show him the way....but will the dopes in MA get it? They all have such a death wish, it may be insurmountable...and the folks in PA could have had Lynn Swann instead of that thug, Rendell...

The ESPN guys all think it's hunky-dory for the NFL to force teams to interview black candidates for head coaching & coordinator positions. Just shows you the mindset there. Not surprising that they are reflexively pro-Obama.

Just read in the WSJ an article about coaches and politics - most are conservative except for *sigh* Lovie Smith and (I KNEW IT!!!!) Pete Carroll both of whom voted for the Bamster. I went to UCLA and always knew those Trojans were only good when they are used! :) GO BRUINS!
