News broke yesterday that construction on the Flight 93 memorial will begin in November. EC brings back guest and author Alec Rawls to talk about the frightening design they've settled on to honor the heroes who saved that plane from hitting Washington DC... and gave their lives to protect others.

who are the people that are responsible for this same design, that keeps coming up?
They should not remain anonymous.

I forget the name, but it’s discussed in the clip here. It’s some LA designer
i guess your screenname refers to how many times you post the same thing?
“guess your screenname refers to how many times you post the same thing?”
That’s what I was thinking!
Anyway, I just heard the “Evil Conservative” state that the designer’s name is “Paul Murdoch”.
But re: the design - what an insult to our country, and especially to the families of those downed by the terrorists. It’s like a victory symbol for the jihadists.
Does the open end truly point to Mecca or is that an internet rumor?
So why don’t 10 million americans march on it and burn it down? Because only 1 million knows it’t there, if that many.
To encompass the debris field of Flight 93, most likely. It also explains the "crescent," which would surround same.
It’s a monstrosity.
An internet rumor. The monument is oriented along the flight path of Flight 93. From the architect's site:
The design features a tower, marking the gateway to the memorial site, that will hold 40 wind chimes whose sounds evoke the memories of those who are honored. The design embraces the place and memory of Flight 93 with a curving arc of maple trees along a walkway framing a Field of Honor, with a focus on the crash site. At the western end of the curving landform is a Portal, defined by walls that frame the axis of the Flight Path to the crash site. Adjacent to the Flight Path will be the Visitor Center, the interpretive center for the memorial and park. A sloped, stone wall forms the edge to the crash site within the Sacred Ground. The fields of the Sacred Ground will be planted with flowers to bloom from Spring through Fall. A white stone slab and gate, on axis with the flight path, provides ceremonial entry to the Sacred Ground for family members.
Why?
“But re: the design - what an insult to our country, and especially to the families of those downed by the terrorists.”
There is one victim’s father who strongly opposes the design. The rest of the families approve of it. In fact, we have a FReeper from NJ who does not find it offensive.
Because the people doing the design are more concerned about their own puffed up sense of importance than they are of making an appropriate memorial.
IN short, this is a memorial to the designers grandiosity - not to the hero's of that day. Eff 'em.
That damn thing is a Memorial to the HIJACKERS...not the Americans aboard.
I’m...IF this is built...a anonymous truckload of dynamite will rectify...but in liue of...a Daily Tea Party on the site might serve well....
