RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina consumers are about to feel another pinch in their wallets at the mall, the convenience store and most every retailer in between.
The state's sales tax goes up a full penny Tuesday, bringing the total rate charged in most counties to 7.75 percent. At the same time, cigarettes, beer, wine and liquor will have higher excise taxes, all of which are likely to be passed on to retail buyers.
Gov. Beverly Perdue agreed to raise these taxes in early August as part of a $991 million package designed to narrow a portion of a budget gap for this year projected by Democratic leaders at more than $4 billion. The rest of the gap was closed with federal stimulus dollars and spending cuts.

Because ACORN/MOVEON.ORG had jobs posted in the paper for activisim... telling college kids to vote early and WHOM for... a straight party ticket... Democrat.

My electric bill is higher this year than it has ever been in the summer. I wonder how much of that is because of “green” initiatives and bull like that. Yet i suppose most morons will blame utility rate increases on Bush.
It is hitting the upper and middle class with all the goods and vices they have being taxed.
No welfare person will care because uncle sam is paying their tax anyway.

How are O’s ratings in NC? I was surprised he carried the state, though his margin of victory was tiny. In other states that went narrowly for O, his approval rating is now under 50%, especially OH, FL, and VA. If the election were held today I think he might lose those states and it would have been a much more narrow victory in the electoral college.

It did go through quickly. They could have balanced the budget by cutting out the MANY art museum artifacts and BS So many other different ways of saving money, than attacking the only vices working men and women have, as well as clothes,shoes,TV’s EVERYTHING!
With the economy and jobs now dwindling dems will be out.
Poor Bev, oh boy did she pick the WRONG advisors. She’s effectively positioned herself as an Obama Liberal. There’s nothing she can do to change that impression with the voters at this point.
