NRSC in Colorado: Hey, Let's Endorse a Tax Raiser!
Publius Forum ^ | 08/31/09 | Warner Todd Huston

Nationally, Americans are beginning to again trust Republicans over Democrats on taxes and the economy. The overreach in spending and the constant Democratic drum beat of wanting to raise taxes on "the rich" to pay for a massive enlargement -- and engorgement, really -- of big government has dug into the high approval rates that Democrats had enjoyed for well over a year. So, what does the National Republican Senatorial Committee want to do in Colorado? You guessed it, they want to endorse a tax raising, squishy moderate for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate for the 2010 race.

My friend Ben DeGrow of the Mount Virtus blog has discerned the rumblings beginning to come out of the NRSC and it looks like that wayward group is about to land four-square behind former Lt. Governor Jane Norton as the GOP race for the Senate gets rolling in the Centennial State.

So, what is Norton known for? Raising taxes. Great, huh? I'll let my Colorado friend tells us more:

The RNC has their heads so screwed on backwards, it’s not even funny.

They even called me, yesterday afternoon, begging for money. I told them, “I’m sorry, but I’m not giving a penny to the RNC until you all back Sarah Palin for President in 2012.”

All of my donations are going to SARAHPAC!

I see the articles calling for the GOP to pick up seats in 2010 and laugh because the threads like this one that show why they will not are all too common.

I’ve said this before. The senate should not be choosing its own members. The NRSC should not endorse candidates. The people of the states should pick their nominees and then the NRSC can fund them if it chooses to.

This is how we keep getting the same old points of view in election after election.

Republicans need to work for a rule to be enacted at the national party level. No endorsements until AFTER the primary/caucus.

Republican party officials, at any level, have no business telling Republicans who to support before the primary/caucus. The purpose of a primary/cacus is to allow the PARTY MEMBERS to determine who the nominee will be.

“Yeah....and what did they say when you told them that???”

They were speechless and so, I hung up the phone. After all they have done/are doing, they had the AUDACITY to ask me for $200!
