It’s not that he didn’t feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, but that he still always saw the other side of everything and the ridiculous side of things, too.

What complete nonsense.

I'm not aware of a jot of evidence of Edward having the merest trace of remorse or the tiniest tippy-tap of a conscience pang about having left Mary Jo K to die an horrific death so (apparently) he wouldn't face DUI related culpability.

If he would joke about the incident, then he was a more hideous scoundrel than even I suspected.
