The Shame of the Senate

According to the MSM Sen. Ted Kennedy was the "lion of the senate" and was the scion of "America's Royal Family.". Time to set the record straight.

Truth be told, Ted Kennedy came from a family of gangsters, bootleggers, elections fixers, ward bosses, philanderers, drug addicts, and alcoholics. Perhaps the most over rated family in the entire country. It is truly amazing that these pathetic losers don't have their own reality show yet.

The founding father, Joseph Kennedy Sr., would have had you believed he was the son of poor Irish immigrants. Truth was his father was a well off saloon keeper and banker and served in the state senate. The family even had the resources to send Joe to Harvard.

Yes Joe amassed a huge fortune but nearly all of it was through ill gotten gains. Kennedy Sr. was a notorious manipulator of the stock market in the 1920s. One of his favorite tricks was to create artificial interest in a stock by trading it back and forth with his accomplices thus pumping up the volume. When investors noticed the increase in activity and volume, they too would pile in driving the price up further. By then old Joe and his friends sold out leaving the little guy holding the bag and then the stock would fall back to its true value. Joe was such a successful stock market manipulator and operator he was able to sell short the market before the stock market crash in 1929 and pocketed millions. When FDR appointed to Joe to be the first head of the SEC, he said it takes a thief to catch a thief.

Joe made millions more by selling bootleg alcohol, the family's traditional business. Anticipating the end of Prohibition, Joe's warehouses of imported scotch were overflowing just as Prohibition came to an end. Kennedy made millions sell scotch before and after Prohibition. Kennedy also went to Hollywood and made another huge fortune mass producing low budget western films which were wildly popular at the time. Joe also used his time in Hollywood to pursue young Hollywood starlets and a well known affair with the legendary silent screen siren Gloria Swanson.

Joe treated his saintly wife, Rose, like a nothing. He flaunted his long line of mistresses before her very eyes. During the 1920s he took BOTH Rose and Gloria on a transcontinental ocean cruise to Europe. Rose endured this indignity with a sense of grace and forebearance that was truly remarkable. In her memoirs, Swanson wondered whether Rose was fool or a better actress than she was. Truth was Rose was neither a fool or an actress. She was saint who put up with an awful lot of crap and endured an equal amount of tragedy. The key to her survival and extroadinary strength was her rock solid faith. She devoted herself to the Church and even had the rare privilege of being made a papal countess. She was the complete opposite of her vile and disgusting pig of a husband.

In 1938, primarily to get him out of the country, FDR appointed Kennedy ambassador to Great Britain. FDR could not have picked a worse person for the job. Kennedy was both an isolationist and an appeasor. He was also an anti-Semite and an admirer of Nazi Germany. The German ambassador to London even supplied Kennedy with German mistresses to keep an eye on him. Joe's son, JFK, also dated a Nazi spy during WWII. Joe Sr. admired the British appeasor Neville Chamberlain and detested his successor, Winston Churchill. During the Battle of Britain, while the King and Queen bravely remained in London during the Blitz, Joe fled to the countryside. Finally, Joe foolishly gave "an off the cuff" interview to a group of reporters and declared democracy was through and said some disparaging things about Eleanor Roosevelt. Kennedy was summarily sacked by FDR and recalled home, his public career a miserable failure and a disgrace.

After the war and back home Joe concentrated on launching his sons' political careers. He spared nothing to get them elected and engaged behind the scenes in buying votes and fixing elections, another family specialty. Joe spent vast sums of money getting his son JFK elected president buying votes in West Virginia and engineering deals with the Chicago boss Mayor Daley to help put Illinois into the Democrat column with the help of absentee ballots cast from the dearly departed. Forget about pregnant chads, this family had election stealing down to fine art form.

When the young Ted Kennedy who had accomplished absolutely nothing other than being expelled from Harvard for cheating on a Spanish exam expressed an interest in vacant Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat, Joe Kennedy said to his older sons, you boys have gotten what you wanted, now its Teddy's turn. Ted Kennedy went on to win the senate seat.

Kennedy's career in the senate quite frankly was as appalling as his father's career as bootlegger, appeasor, and election fixer. The Chappaquaddick scandal was an exercise of family power and control in the state of Massachusetts. No other person in the country would have been permitted to walk free after leaving the scene of an accident without immediately notifying the authorities as a young woman was gasping for breath in an airpocket in Kennedy's car in the murky depths of Poucha Pound.

After the accident or murder or whatever you want to call it, Kennedy gave the predictable contrition BS you might expect from a politician. But did he change his ways? Of course not. Kennedy compiled the biggest track record of a drunken lech in the entire history of the U.S. senate. Ted treated his wife, Joan, in much the same way Joe treated Rose. With complete indifference and callousness. Unfortunately Joan lacked Rose's strength and faith and has been battling alcoholism for decades thanks to Ted's piggish and disgusting personal behavior. No member of the senate has a boozing and womanizing record which could possibly match Kennedy's. There is no need to recount all of the stories here as his track record is so well known and has been on the front pages of the tabloids for many decades.

OK then there is his legislative track record. Let's look at that too. If you think legalizing illegal aliens, supporting unrestricted abortions on demand (wonderful Catholic, huh?), higher taxes, national health care, big government all the way, gutting our military, appeasing the Soviets (appeasement is another grand tradition of this disgusting family) are great ideas then Kennedy is your man.

I know the man just died and out of respect we are supposed to hold our tongues and keep quiet but if there is one thing even more disgusting than Ted Kennedy and his truly over rated family it is the MSM which hails him as the lion of the senate and his lousy family as America's dynasty. If the media would stopping pushing all this down our throats then I would glady hold my peace. Meantime Ted has some splainin to do at the Pearly Gates.

Last year a true lion of the senate, who was a devout patriot, SINCERE Christian, a strong proponent of limited government and republican values instituted by our fore fathers passed away. His name was Jesse Helms. But the MSM had little nice to say about him and never strained to cover up his faults and shortcomings. But he was true statesman who understood the Constitutional restraints on government. Perhaps because he didn't have a flamboyant lifestyle or come from a celebrated family, the MSM didn't pay him much attention when he died. But he remains my hero and role model.

It’s not quite that simple. It was of course a different time and era. Joe began cheating on Rose early in the marriage. He began going to New York and spending lots of time away from the family while “on business”.

Rose was often left at home with the children. Very early on, Rose actually left Joe and returned home to her family. Her father, Honey Fitz, said to her she had to go back to her husband, there was no other choice.

Divorce was not common back then like it is today. Especially when there were children involved. But the Kennedys were very wealthy and were able to do things most middle class families could not. As they got older Joe and Rose basically lived separate lives and took sepatate vacations. They also had multiple homes. Rose went to Mass every day and Joe did his thing.

I cannot sit here and defend every decision made by other people. Hillary stays married to Bill for whatever reasons. Hillary may be many things but she is no dummy.

Obviously I do have a lot of respect for Rose Kennedy and you know what I think of the rest of that family. Obviously Rose and Joe did not have a happy marriage and Rose did try to leave him once only to be ordered back by her father.

Rose was an ardent Catholic and strongly believed in the teachings of the Church. She also had a large family to raise and had to think about that.

Please don’t force me in position to second guess Rose. On a personal level, throughout my life, I have come to know of instances where there was infidelity and yet the couple involved decided to stay married for whatever reasons. This even occurred in my own family.

So please let’s not second guess Rose. God let her live to be 104. She obviously did something right.

RIP Rose, you deserve it!
