Other Blog posts this week:

Dr. Bass became head of the Body Farm at the University of Tennessee.

There dead bodies are studied, rates of decay and other nasty stuff, to help solve crimes, identify the long dead or just so people like myself can read some really interesting stuff about it.

Not for the squeamish.

"Mama Mia" is an okay musical, probably not for our heterosexual brethren. It does feature pop music from my era, has beautiful scenery, great acting, intriguing characters.

Two things, "Dancing Queen" will roll around in your head for a month after seeing it and the plot line, folks, it's really, really uncomfortable.

In Thoughts this week we have a weekly wrap up of Obamacare news, including the most amazing, just revealed on Fox News Sunday today, 8/23/09-the administration's attempt to KILL OFF OUR VETERANS!

The Obama admin sent a spokesperson who they thought would stop the anger but God bless the child for her service to our country but she lied, and lied, and lied, and lied.

They want to kill us, folks, the elderly Vets and citizens, don't let them deny it.

Plus Michelle's shorts, Town Meeting cowards, and the snitch White House web site closed down.

I’m a guy. I like musicals. I really enjoyed Mama-Mia in parts but hated the movie.

And yeah, it was DEFINITELY the story line. It was THE reason I hated it.

I am confused. “Mamma Mia” is a campy musical set to ABBA tunes and its the most popular movie ever in Britain; because of its charm much like “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Whats the complaint here? Its not gay enough???

I'm not a big musical lover myself. But I really did like Oliver. Oliver Reed is the best Bill Sikes ever!

Moma Mia is about a slut who had sex with multiple partners and can’t tell her child who is her father.

Essentially it is the scene where a woman finds out she is pregnant and does not know who her sex partners are or how to get a hold of them.

I hate the story line too, though I have not seen the movie or play.

A sperm donor is NOT a father. Fathering is a verb. The person who DOES the fathering is the father. That man could be a stepfather, an uncle, or Grandpa. No one who walks out of a child’s life or never knew he even had a child is a father. Period.

And no sperm donor can “give away” a bride. The reason the song “Butterfly Kisses” makes us cry is because we understand this is a DADDY of a BABY GIRL who grew to a big girl and then to his adult daughter. We cry for his love for her and how the relationship changes forever on that day. How could anyone get choked up over a guy who once had sex with the mom coming to the wedding of that conception?

You’re much better off just buying the ABBA greatest hits album.

My husband just laughed and said, “If you’re a gay male, you’ll love the movie!”

I liked “Mama Mia”. I liked the music, I liked the acting, I liked the characters, I liked the setting, I liked the camera work, I liked the costumes.

This was a terrible critique of the movie. The critic missed: 1) Meryl Streep played a role where she was supposed to be about age 40. She's 60 for Heavens Sake! 2) Pierce Brosnam sings -- terribly! (The Broadway and the traveling Broadway South productions were outstanding!)

Without knowing a thing about it, I saw the play in D. C. several years ago with some people in my Sunday school class. I was stunned at the pro-life message and the blatant reminders of the earthly consequences of sin. This was the topic of our dinner discussion following the performance.

There were definitely some snafus in the movie. There are many of us who survived the '70's, as they say, who can relate to much of what occurred in the storyline. I always take something away from fables and cautionary tales, though. Even those which are poorly executed.

If you like ABBA but hate musicals, I recommend Murial's Wedding.
