Dozens of congressmen have been using their lengthy summer recess to play hide-and-seek with voters, avoiding the spotlight and spite that have greeted some politicians who returned home to discuss health care reform.
Those days, it appears, are over.
Facing pressure from voters and hostile local editorial writers, more and more members of Congress appear to be wilting in the heat of the health care summer and are opening up to the sometimes hostile public forums.

Here is the letter I sent to the state’s main newspaper and to Shea-Porter’s office.
To the Editor
Carol Shea-Porter should be ashamed of herself. She is choosing to hide at a time when an issue that effects the lives of each and everyone of her constituents needs to be debated. This should be our opportunity to speak directly to our representatives about this important legislation. Her biography, listed on her web site, says that she ran for office because, “the voice of hard working families needed to be heard in Washington.” Well the time is here for you to listen to those voices, Mrs. Shea-Porter and to bring their concerns to Washington. This needs to be done in person and in an open forum, never mind this “telephone town hall” non-sense. This is New Hampshire and here there is no such thing as a “telephone town hall.” Anything else is an act of cowardice plain and simple. After all you don’t seem to mind discussing “green jobs” with your lobbyists in person at $25 a head. This is not the style of representation that New Hampshire expects from their representatives and is very different than the type you promised to deliver. There are hard working families in New Hampshire that oppose government controlled health care and deserve an opportunity to be heard. You took the job to represent New Hampshire citizens, ma’am and the job is not all roses and sunshine. If you can’t take the fact that people may disagree with your party and its leadership, you shouldn’t have volunteered to represent the fine people of New Hampshire in the first place.
Respectfully,
In Arkansas, Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor are hiding. Lincoln has held democrat meetings where no questions except planted ones were asked. They wouldn’t let anyone in with signs, buttons or anything in and the cost was 5.00 just to go in to the park and listen. Pryor has held several call ins where you don’t really have a chance to speak your piece. Both these clowns need to be out of office. Lincoln is up for re election this year. BYE BYE Blanche!!!
