Stazi dirty trick people who could have taken care of a few documents. I think the problem was still to convince the HI government to go along with it, and that required a personal appearance.
Yeah, I know: tin-foil hat stuff. But the whole incident was so unnatural. To "go see your dying grandma", and then not go see her two day when you arrive. Bizarre.

It does beg the question of why someone else (In the Dem Machine) couldn't have done it. Not to get documents that might prove Obama constitutionally ineligible for the presidency or that Barack Obama Sr. was not his father.
Obama could not leave the job to the Hawaii party or even his campaign staff. Delegating the job at all would have left open the possibility of the papers being leaked to a vengeful PUMA unafraid to use them.
No, this was one job Obama had to do himself, even if it was apparently beneath a presidential candidate's dignity to personally rummage through his grandmother's house just weeks before the election.
