College Student at Colorado Town Hall Meeting Challenges Obama to a Debate - Video 8/15/09

Here is video from President Obama's Town Hall Meeting today in Grand Junction, Colorado where a College Student challenged Obama to a direct "Oxford Style" Debate, along with asking him a question.

The student asked Obama "how in the world a private corporation" such as an Insurance Company compete with an entity like the Federal Government who does not have to pay property taxes and is not subject to regulation?

Good question - so good in fact that Obama went on one of his patented rambling answer / non-answers that said lots of words but never really dealt directly with the question. He essentially said he would see to it that unlimited taxpayer money would not be poured into a Government Health Plan making the competition unfair.

We are all reassured with that answer, aren't we? Government won't have access to unlimited taxpayer money?

Later, Obama praised the young man for having the courage to challenge "the President" to a debate - referring to himself in the third person. . . . . (Watch Video)

Anybody ever notice that Axelrod looks a bit like Hitler?

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty good answer too actually. I thought improving the guy’s point by bringing up the price of capital was a nice touch. I also think he makes a sound point when he cites other countries where a private market exists alongside the government presence.

By the way, this is not the first time he’s mentioned the Netherlands and their healthcare system. I’m guessing that’s the model he has in his mind (though I don’t know if that’s reflected in the current Democrat bills or not). I’m no fan of socialized healthcare, even partially socialized healthcare, but the Netherlands is better than the draconian Canadian or English model that Hillary was obviously working from.

Obama referred to himself in the third person? Richard Nixon did the same thing. It was eerie when Nixon did it.

"President Rahm"

The State Controlled Media are giving Obama a complete pass on the fact that the real "Domestic President" is President Rahm. The country is being run into the ground by a couple of Chicago politicians; Rahm being the top guy.

If you have an answer to Obama’s point about a private healthcare market existing in the Netherlands I’d love to hear it. Because I guarantee you that’s the argument that the lefties are going to start making now. And answering it by making fun of Obama’s ears isn’t going to cut it.

I didn’t say he had a good answer... I said he did better job of answering tough questions than normal.
I think he was prepared for that one.
I not saying the kid was a plant... he didn’t look it... but Obama is clearly combating the stacked audience/softball charge.

As far as the point about other countries health care systems, Obama’s agenda implementation is dependent upon a populace which doesn’t understand it’s own constitution, let alone other countries. That claim he made about private market co-existence is also TRUE IN CHINA!... where the government beats the pulp out of dissenters... but the government itself relies upon some private sector activity (non-critical ones or ones it can’t handle completely itself) just to keep it’s head above water and the populace from breaking into rebellion.

When is someone going to question Obama on the pure constitutionality of some of the specific clauses contained in the bill?

That's the primary question I have been asking for months.

BTW, no school credit if 0bama does debate you. Not hard enough to qualify. lol

I can't believe he made the same statement about Fed-Ex, UPS and the U.S. Post Office! Hasn't that already come back and bit him? Can he not come up with a better example where the government actually succeeded at something that did not drive out private enterprise?

Conservatives have been arguing that the public option would kill off the private healthcare market, and his Netherlands point seems to show that that is not true. So in that sense it was a good answer. Unfortunately we are in some ways post-Constitutional now and making the constitutionality argument means overturning the precedent established by unconstitutional programs like SS and Medicare. I don’t know that I’ve even heard Mark Levin emphasize the constitutional angle much.

I would suggest you do just a “little” research before you start making insinuations like that.

Don't they have euthanasia in the Netherlands that is pretty much ignored by their government?

That is the point... it always "seems" good. But NOTHING he says is based upon principle. Just because he sounds credible doesn't mean that he is.

I don't know a damn thing about the Netherlands... do you?

I don't care where you go... the free market health care system beats the HELL out of ALL OF THEM... and that is what they are trying to destroy.

Forget what form of health care we will be left with...

The point is that we will have lost our freedom.
