EDITOR'S NOTE: Many Americans believe only the wealthy or politically well-connected can run for elected office. However, you can take part in a grass roots effort designed to put the Illinois GOP back in the hands of the people.

The following information was compiled by Doug Ibendahl, co-founder of Republican Young Professionals (RYP) (http://www.ilryp.org) and contributor to Champion News (http://www.championnews.net/).

Ibendahl addresses the process Illinois voters can follow to become a Republican Precinct Committeeman. Ibendahl writes, "Only 10 valid signatures from registered voters in your precinct are needed to get on the ballot for Precinct Committeeman..." (Rules may differ in other states)

WANTED: Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen by Doug Ibendahl

On Tuesday, August 4th candidates can begin circulating petitions for the Primary Election on February 2, 2010.

Petitions can be gathered from that day through November 2nd of this year. That's the last day to file petitions.

New Republican leaders are needed from top to bottom in Illinois - but today we're focusing on the office of Republican Precinct Committeeman. There are more of these posts than any other in Illinois - by far. It's also the smallest and simplest race to run. It's a volunteer office with a two-year term...
