Not a good week for President Obama. He's created the whole police "acted stupidly" fiasco. Now he has made another historical gaffe, this time by saying Japanese Emperor Hirohito signed the surrender of Japan to Gen Douglas MacArthur in 1945. Problem is: Hirohito didn't sign the surrender! On September 2, 1945, General Yoshijiro Umezu and Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu represented Japan in signing the Instrument of Surrender aboard the Battleship Missouri. Here's video of the surrender . . . . . Obama used the incorrect historical reference to support his statement that "victory" is not necessarily our goal in Afghanistan:
"I'm always worried about using the word 'victory,' because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur," Obama told ABC News.

I understand your point. But I think it is relevant to point out these gaffes because the liberal media destroyed Sarah Palin on these kind of mistakes, and far less. They hold Obama up to be so brilliant in every respect. This only serves to show that he is not what they have made him out to be.
Had Palin or George W. Bush made such a statement, wouldn’t have been the lead story on every major network?

I disagree. How could he not know this important historical fact? It is troubling and says a great deal about his qualifications for making decisions that affect my life and the lives of my friends and family.

Check out the History Channel - they have WWII programs all the time.
They usually show the surrender signing right at the end - in half a minute you would KNOW who signed the surrender ...
