Hahahah - I have leftist neighbors who quit AARP when they supported the Bush prescription plan. Maybe they should just stay out of politics all together.
I love getting AARP solicitations and sending them back in shreds at their own expense.
Thanks for this.
I just looked at one of the AARP alternatives, Alliance for Retired Americans. But on reviewing their agenda as posted on their website I found some disturbing statements:
(1) http://www.retiredamericans.org/ht/d/sp/i/341/pid/341 with this statement: Those with the least need for tax cuts, the top 1 percent of households, will receive more than $1 trillion in tax benefits over the next decade. This skewed tax policy undermines the capacity of the federal government to finance Social Security and Medicare benefits as well as make investments in schools and health care.
My response: In a democracy, as we should know, when the 51% of voters paying little tax find that they can selfishly vote themselves benefits from the public treasury that is contributed by the 49% of high tax paying voters, then the system will collapse. The selfishness that ARA is advocating will hasten this collapse.
(2) http://www.retiredamericans.org/ht/display/ReleaseDetails/i/6191/pid/483 with this statement: Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans will unite with Arizona retirees and a coalition of public interest groups outside a Phoenix Social Security office to protest Senator John McCains support for Social Security privatization.
My response: Also as we should know, our present Social Security system cannot in the future provide benefits on the current scale with the current policy. In your opposition to reforming the SS system, it seems like ARA is promoting the Cloward-Piven strategy to destroy our nation by overwhelming the system.
