True... though to Phil’s credit, this is I think from back when his show was just a local Chicago interview show and not the bizarre circus of his national show. Donohue was different back then.

Back then, he was actually a fairly skilled interviewer. He engaged Friedman here, in such a way as to let *be* Friedman and let him be at his best. Not that he threw softballs or was trying to just make him look good, but rather that his job was to guide the interview in order to make it most interesting to watch. And in that it was superb. Even if Donohue is a boob.
