A nation 'under God'? Consider it

As the birthday of our country draws near and we get ready to celebrate the independence we have enjoyed for 233 years, it is crucial we examine what we have had. Do we want to keep these freedoms or are we willing to let them slide out of existence?

President Reagan once remarked, "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." Does that ring a bell? It is high time we make up our minds as we review this paragraph in the Declaration of Independence that was signed July 4, 1776:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

As I think through this paragraph, I do see it makes reference to the Creator. It does seem self-evident that those who did the writing were referring to the one and only true God of creation who was with us when we started out as a Christian nation under God. Is there a document that spells out what these rights should be, and if there is, how are we to know it is true?

The Holy Bible is the only book that can meet those criteria in any way whatsoever. Men wrote what they were told by God, even though it took many years and authors to get it done. Yet it is in total agreement. Our laws were set according to the Ten Commandments found in Exodus 20 of the Old Testament: You shall not have other gods before me, you shall not worship any graven images, you shall not take God's name in vain, you shall not kill, steal, bear false witness or commit adultery or covet. We are to honor our parents and keep the Sabbath day. Is our country following these commandments now?

Among our unalienable rights is the right to worship God. In today's world, other religions are given this right, but, of all things, true Christians are made fun of for standing up for the Bible. People who put God on the back burner and put on "a little righteousness" are acclaimed as the leaders of the world. Is this what our forefathers had in mind? Does that make sense?

One wonders: When did this all begin to change? When I was very young, it was easier to see the difference between black and white. You either were for God or against, and there was very little in between. I can remember one preacher foretelling how it might be someday, saying Christians would be ridiculed and our country would then go downhill. I remember thinking, "He's just exaggerating. That will never happen."

What, you ask, is "a nation under God"?

Although God is the one who created us, he gave us the right to decide whether to accept and follow him. He never makes us do something we do not want to do. The most important decision we can ever make and the only way to become a member of God's family is to personally receive him into our life. If the majority of people in America would do this, we would be "a nation under God."

Our government would seek God's will in the decisions that were made. People would not seek high offices to further their own glory but would seek God's wisdom in what they do, and to further his glory.

We would be guided by the Lord, who knows everything, is all-powerful, and loves us with an unselfish love.

When our country would have important decisions to make, we would go to prayer, even in the White House. We would not worship any man because none of them are God. There would be no laws passed that took away from our guidebook. We would worship only the omnipotent Creator who is the God of the universe.

Going according to the Declaration, we would be given the right to life here on earth as well as the everlasting life we receive when we accept Christ as our own.

The solution to our country's problems? God has the answer if we just listen: Once more become "a nation under God." What a wonderful Fourth of July we would celebrate. Dare we try it? Give it some thought.

But Obama is a humanist and in humanist thought, man is god!

And that is why we are a country divided against itself.

Those who love God are no longer in control of this country!

Wow, this is so true, and that is why we are not thriving as a nation right now as we once were, that is why we are in such bad financial turmoil—we have elected officials who have decided to leave God out and Obama, though professing to be Christian is very far from it. In fact it seems like he does everything he can to go against Christianity. The end days are upon us, would not be surprised if Obama is even worse than we think, and has something to do with end time prophecy. I study it and he does exhibit all the signs of the evil one or at least someone that is going to bring America to its knees to make way for us to no longer be a super power and have to join into a new world order....
