I don’t use the pre-whipped stuff either (although I could probably figure out how to open the container)...nothing like freshly whipped cream. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............
My family was too poor for Redi-Whip (six kids). So my mother used some fake junk called Dream-Whip. It was a dry powder; you added powdered milk and water and then whipped it with an electric mixer. It was to Redi-Whip as Spam is to a Hormel ham.
